Event 17: HOSE Still Playing

$500 + $60 HOSE

When they reached the final 16 HOSE-players, they opted to continue play until they reached the money.  Only the final 9 will get paid.  Then they will bag & tag the chips and return tomorrow for the final table.

Unless they change their minds again, that is.

 Jeff Duvall

They're down to 13 players now.  The average is ~57k.  Jeff Duvall is the chip leader with ~116k.

Event 12: Updated Leaderboard

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Following a break, play resumed with blinds of 50k/100k and 10k antes.

 Jeff Finkelstein

As of the break, Jeff Finkelstein has taken the chip lead with 5.1 million chips.  Second is too close to call.  Rich Gomolinski and James Governa both have just over 4 million.

Event 16: Three Women Left

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Three women are cat-fighting for the title of "Last Women Standing".

Our lovely ladies include:

Kristin Fletcher (Charlotte, NC) 175,000 chips.
Jacqueline Lurch (Wall, NJ) 190,000 chips.
Annie "Grandma" Kane 315,000 chips.

Kristin and Annie are at the same table and Kristin has made her #1 goal to be the Last Women Standing. "My goal before that was to have a good dinner. I like to set the bar low" said Fletcher.

Jacqueline's first goal is to make the money. With 51 players left and 45 getting paid, it's definitely doable.

Annie's been at the same table the entire day. "Amazing, and I'm still here" laughed the lady they call Grandma. Annie wants to make the money, then she wants to win.

Kane used to play black-jack but once she discovered sit-n-go's years ago, she can't get enough of em. She just loves hold-em.

All three of our ladies are very likable so my rooting interest is split three ways.

Right now Annie has the lady lead with 315,000.

Event 12: Gomolinski Doubles Through Eriquezzo

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Blinds are up to 40k/80k with 5k antes.

Rich Gomolinski got all-in pre-flop against big stack Ryan Eriquezzo.  Rich held the boss pair, pocket Aces, and was crushing Ryan's KQ.

 Rich Gomolinski

The board ran dry for Ryan and Rich doubled up to 4.25 million, taking the chip lead.  Ryan was left with ~2.4 million.   "I've been on a little rush" Rich said.

Event 16: Spano Spanked

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

The good news is, I got to meet Barbara Spano.
The bad news is, she just got knocked out.

Barbara was managing a short stack since dinner break.
"Do you know how many times I shoved all-in and won? Too many to count" said Barbara.

Her Opponent apologized for ending her tournament.

Barbara had J-10 suited and found herself dominated against A-10.

When she's not playing poker, Barbara likes to travel.

53 players remain with an average stack of 223,113.

Event 12: 16th Place - Kristal Vergara

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Kristal Vergara - 16th Place - $1,172

Event 16: Riccobono Bounced

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Two of our familiar faces in Event 16 just faced off on the felt.

Al Riccobono had an average chip-stack and raised with A-Q.

Mike "Little Man" Sica made the call and the two saw a flop.
Flop: A-9-4

Al thought he was good on that flop and got the rest of his stack in the middle.

Sica tables A-9 for top two, and it holds.

Al Riccobono is out.

Two PPI guys going at it...both are in the running for the Championship Event buy-in.

Event 12: 17th Place - Joe Lopes

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

 Joe Lopes - 17th place - $1,172

Event 16: Selman Busts Shorti

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Matt Selman (Brooklyn, NY) looks down at pocket Aces in the cut-off.

Only action was a short-stack shove from middle position holding A-K of spades.

Clean board boosts Selman's stack up to 280,000.

In case you're wondering, Matt is listening to "Ill Matic" on his ipod. Man, I'm getting old 'cause I've never heard of them.

Event 12: 18th Place - Edwin Lau

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

 Edwin Lau - 18th Place - $1,172

Event 15: Loser Bracket Hopeful

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

Mike Delvecchio "One Match At A Time"

Mike Delvecchio lost his first heads up match then told me, "Now I have to win a million in a row so I can cash". He's not looking ahead, taking it one match at a time.

How does he keep his focus after playing intense matches all day long? "I try to relax when I'm not playing to keep my mind off of poker" said Delvecchio.

His friends Adam and Victoria, who also play poker, have been diligently watching Mike from a couple of close-by chairs.

Our feature heads-up matches are still trading chips and leads.

Event 12: Final Two Tables

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

With 18 players remaining, they drew seats and moved to the final two tables.  Here's the lineup:

Event 16: Fantastic Frank Fulmer

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Frank Fulmer - 400,000

Frank Fulmer (Rehoboth Beach, DE) is trying to take the trophy home to his wife Denise. So far Frank is in the lead with 400,000. Breathing down his neck:

Trevor Hills - 358,000
John Brothers - 340,000
Chris Kennedy 272,000

Floor just removed the 1000 orange and 500 chips off the tables.

77 Players remain.

Blinds: 5000 / 10,000 with 1000 antes

Event 12: Chip Leaders

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

During the break, I scoped out the stacks.  Here are the leaders (in millions):

Ryan Eriquezzo - 3.47
Jeff Finkelstein - 2.9
James Romoser - 2.3
William Hart - 2.12
David Zeitlin - 1.78
Jack Marji - 1.65
Rich Gomolinski - 1.64
Niko Markatos - 1.45
Sal Pipitone - 1.31
Nicole Rowe - 1.26

Play resumed after the break with blinds of 30k/60k with 5k antes.

Event 12: Finkelstein Doubles

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Apparently my motivational skills are impressive.  Jeff Finkelstein is up to 2.9 million and second in chips.  During the break, he recounted for me how he doubled up.

Action had folded to him in the small blind and he opened for 105k.  The big blind flat-called.  On the flop of K 7 7, Jeff checked, his opponent bet 165k, and Jeff called.  Turn was a blank and Jeff led out for 150k.  The big blind just flatted again.  River was another blank and Jeff shoved, getting the call.

The big blind showed pocket Aces.  Jeff had 72 suited for trip 7s to take the pot and chip way up to 2.9 million.

At the end of the level, players took a break while the orange 1k chips were colored up.

Event 15: Final Four Winners - Zaucha vs. Jamshidi

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

Brandan Zaucha

Sirous Jamshidi

Who will play the winner of the Tim Tuveson vs. Lior Shalom Barlev match?

Whoever takes down this entire tournament wins $34,920.

Event 15: Final Four Winners - Tim Vs. Lior Shalom

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

Lior Shalom Barlev

Tim Tuveson

Tim Tuveson and Lior Shalom Barlev are battling heads up right now as we speak, I mean type.

These guys are in the final four winners bracket and unofficially have made the money which pays 6th place $4,365.

Event 17: HOSE Update

$500 + $60 HOSE

The HOSE-players got moved to the poker room at dinner and they're now down to 21 players.  'Miami' John Cernuto is holding on, but short-stacked.  Average stack is ~35k.

 Bullet

'Bullet' is the chip leader with over 80k.  Only the final 9 get paid, so they've still got a way to go.

Event 16: Ace - King - Thrice

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

AK three times in a row? A good thing or a bad thing?

For Thomas Rodriguez it meant one double up, one 40K knock-out, then finally a dusting off of 90,000 to Mike Melena who woke up with pocket Aces.

Rodriguez and Melena have been sitting next to each other at the same table since the start of this Event at 11am.

"I got my entertainment times 2" said Melena who was laughing at Rodriguez' comic relief.

Thomas showed a sweet 6-3 offsuit bluff while I was watching, but a few hands later his 70,000 stack suffered termination.

Q-J of clubs couldn't hit a brick wall and Opponent's 7-7 held up.

Rodriguez hit the rail but told me he was looking forward to trying again tomorrow.

Event 12: Restifo Retired

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

After Jeff Finkelstein opened for a raise, Carl Restifo moved all-in.  Jeff looked him up with pocket 6s.  Carl held KJ and would need help to survive.

 Carl Restifo

He got none on the flop of 6 3 3 , which gave Jeff a full house.  A King on the turn gave him a glimmer of hope, but the river was a blank and Carl was busted.

29 players remain.

Event 16: What We Got

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

13 Tables remain.

99 Players with an average stack of 119,449.

Blinds 4,000 / 8,000 with 500 antes.

It seems a little too quiet in Event 16.

Just the endless sound of chips shuffling.

No outbursts, no commotion, no nothing...for now.

Event 12: Double Double-Ups

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

William Hart began today as the chip leader.  He's been up and down a lot since then.

On a flop of A T 7 with two clubs, he just found himself all-in and covered by the player on his left.  William held AJ for top pair.  His opponent held QT of clubs for middle pair with flush draw.  William managed to fade all those outs as the last two came offsuit 3 4 and William doubled up to ~1.4 million.

Blinds increased to 25k/50k with 4k antes.

Julian Miranda was all-in holding AQ against the pocket 5s of Niko Markatos.  Julian caught an Ace on the turn to take the lead and the pot.  He doubled up to ~900k.

31 players remain.  Average stack is ~1.04 million.

Event 12: Two More Departures

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Jack Marji

A short-stack was all-in and Jack Marji (Yonkers, NY) made the call with AQ.  He was racing against pocket Tens.  The board came Q 9 8 3 7 and Jack took the pot, sending another player to the rail.  Jack is now up to ~1.2 million.

On the next table over, a player opened up front for 120k and Niko Markatos moved in on him.  The short-stack called all-in, showing pocket Queens.  Nike held KQ and was drawing slim, but a King on the flop was all he needed.  Niko took the pot, sending another player home.

Event 15: Heading Towards A Winner

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

Brandan Zaucha against Sirous Jamshidi

Both gentlemen have come a long way with only a few more matches to go.

When you work in the Loser bracket we're technically down to six players.

Board shows winner of this match will face the winner of T. Tuveson vs. L. Barlev.

Matt Affleck lost his match and didn't look in the mood for an interview.

Event 16: Chip Leader Out

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

A couple hands ago Chris Galvin, our fourth place finisher of this tournament last year, had 480,000 chips. So how in the world could I just see him walking out of the Event Center?

Hand 1) Galvin's A-Q up against Opponent's A-4. 4 spikes, crippling Chris.

Hand 2) Three-way all in action. Again Chris has the best hand. Galvin's JJ against Opponent's 66 and Mark Videtto 88.

Flop: A-8-3
Turn: 3
River: 6

Videtto's better set knocks two players out, including Chris Galvin.

And how about that poor guy hitting his meaningless 6 on the river.
Poker Gods love to kick you when you're down.

As for Mark, he's used to serving shots - he's a bartender in Verona, NJ.

Floor, we need more players at Table 2!

Event 12: Finkelstein Fares Well

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

David Zeitlin is up to 2.38 million and the closest competitor to chip leader Ryan Eriquezzo.

Jeff Finkelstein (Las Vegas, NV) is up to 1.3 million and he credits me.  On an earlier pass through the room when few players were over 1 million, Jeff asked "What do I have to do to get my picture in the blog?".

Jeff Finkelstein

I jokingly replied "Get over a million chips".  Well he took that as motivation and he's achieved that goal.   "Now go for 2 million" I told him.

Event 16: Roland is Rolling

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Roland Israelashvili among the chipleaders

Roland Israelashvili origninally from Republic of Georgia, is excited to be sitting on 210,000 chips. "I have know idea what I'm doing; just getting lucky," joked Roland.

How did he quickly rise up to one of the largest stacks in the room? Israelashvili hit quad fours. "I played it good" said Roland who flopped a set then turned quads and slo played em.

Roland now lives in NY.

Event 12: Patel Being Patient

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Seated just to the left of Ryan Eriqezzo's monster stack is Tiku Patel of Cherry Hill, NJ.  Tiku's got about 750k, which is a bit below the average.  With 20k/40k blinds, he's still got some fold equity with over 18 big blinds.

 Tiku Patel

Tiku works in sales and only plays tournaments occasionally.  This is actually his first-ever multi-day event.  "It's kinda cool making it this long in a big event" he said.  He only paid one entry -- never busted out and re-entered -- and he's already guaranteed to cash for at least $831.

When I asked about sitting to the left of the big stack, he replied "it's a little intimidating".

They're down to 28 players now.

Event 16: Jacked Up On Quadludes

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Robert Saladin

Robert Saladin (Chester, NY) found the hand of his tournament right before dinner break.

Saladin held J-9 up against two players. Opponent flops a straight when his 8-9 sees J-10-7.

Jack on the turn gave Robert a ton of outs but he didn't expect another Jack to fall.

Saladin scoops a healthy pot and knocks the straight floppper out with QUADS.

39 players remain.  Average stack is ~828k.

Event 16: Stuffed From Dinner

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Our players are back from dinner.

Down to 11 tables.

Ryan Don (Newburgh, NY) has the most chips at table 2 with 216,700.

Don, a software engineer, hit a hand when his A-7 paid dividends.

"I had A-7 and the flop was 7-7-A, and my Opponent had a 7 in his hand" said Ryan.

It helps that his Opponent was the former table chip leader who stacked off half his chips to Ryan.

I asked Ryan if he designs any on-line poker software or if he knew how to beat their action heavy software. He laughed telling me he only works in banking software.

Event 16: Chow Time

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Players are on a one hour dinner break as 125 remain with an average stack of 95k.

Scanning the room we see at least one stack with more than 300k. There are a lot of stacks in the 150-200k range as we're on the prowl and planning to update chip counts in a bit.

Event 12: Warnings Issued to Table 3

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

In a big hand on table 3 they were at the turn with a board of K 5 3 Q with two spades.  John McGuinness (Toms River, NJ) was all-in against Julian Miranda.  Julian was making a decision for his tournament live, so he tanked for a bit, then exposed his hand, which was A5 of spades.

 John McGuinness

The floor was called to make a ruling.  Julian was given a warning and if he exposes his cards again with action pending, he will get a ten-hand penalty.  He was still having trouble making a decision.  Then John turned over his cards -- pocket Aces.  He was also given a warning for exposing his hand.  Julian eventually folded and John collected this pot, chipping up to ~900k.

The entire table was issued a warning and if anyone exposes their cards with action pending, they will get a penalty.

John is the brother of Mike McGuinness, who also made day 2 of this event.  "We're the next Mizrachi brothers" John said.  He has a picture of his daughter in his card protector which he holds up proudly and says "It's all in here.  This almost won me a bracelet".  Sure enough, John was heads-up with Bahador Ahmadi in the $2,500 Limit/No Limit Mixed Hold'em event at the 2009 WSOP.  John finished 2nd for $172,227.

Event 12: Miranda Busts Patella

  $170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Borgata regular Martha Patella got her last chips in holding AK against Julian Miranda, who held pocket Queens.  I guess Martha should have heeded the Miranda Warning, as the board came T 5 4 4 6 and brought her no help.

Martha reported to the rail in 51st place, earning $660.

Joanne Monteavarro has also busted out.

45 players remain.  Average is almost 718k.

Event 12: Monteavarro Triples

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

After seat 1 limped utg, Joanne Monteavarro (cutoff) moved in for her last 65k.  Naz Tyrewala re-raised to 165k straight.  Seat 1 then moved all-in for over half a million.  Naz was a bit distressed by this, but decided to let his hand go (saying later he folded AQ).

Joanne held AQ offsuit and was racing against pocket Jacks.  The board came A A 7 5 K and Joanne tripled up.

(If Naz had made the call with AQ, he would have chopped the main pot with Joanne, but won the side-pot, busting that player and chipping up to nearly 2 million.)

Event 16: Aspiring Pro

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

We've found a couple of first time Borgata players who have their sites on more than just today's $30,000 first prize. One of them is Kelly Fleming (Catawissa, PA) who's an aspiring pro. "I'm trying to save money and take a shot," she says.

So far Fleming hasn't been involved with too many hands. "Very easy decisions, (pocket) kings or jack-four."

140 players remain as the tournament is closing in on the dinner break.

Event 12: More Million Chippers

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Some new members of the million chip club:

James Romoser - 1.5 million
Nazir Tyrewala - 1.4 million
Carl Restifo - 1.03 million

Niko Markatos is up to ~1.4 million.
Kristal Vergara is up to ~1.7 million.

Blinds are up to 15k/30k with 4k antes.  54 players remain.  Average is ~598k.

Event 12: Two Million Chip Man

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

The two big stacks on table two were bound to get into a confrontation eventually.  It just happened on the turn with a board of T 3 2 T.  All the chips went in the pot.  Anthony Maio (Jamison, PA) held 54 and had flopped a flush with straight-flush re-draw.  Ryan Eriquezzo held pocket 9s (two pair) and was drawing thin (4 outs).

It helps to run good.  The river delivered the T, giving Ryan Tens-full of 9s to beat Anthony's flush.  The stacks were close and had to be counted down, but Ryan had more and in the end, collected the huge pot.  He's now sitting behind ~2 million and leading the field.

Anthony Maio headed for the payout desk.

Event 15: Champ on the Ropes

Event 12: Chip Leaders

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Players completed a level and cleared out for a break, so I got a chance to scope out the big stacks.
Counts are approximate.

Kristal Vergara

Kristal Vergara has claimed the chip lead with ~1.4 million.
William Hart - 1.22 million
Bernie Dominiak - 1.16 million
Niko Markatos - 1.08 million
Anthony Maio - 1 million
Ryan Eriquezzo - 1 million
Nicole Rowe - 900k

Dave Zeitlin has dropped down to ~600k.

Play has resumed with blinds of 12k/24k and 3k antes.  63 players remain.  Average stack is ~513k.

Event 12: Hart Avoids Disaster

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Julian Miranda (Union City, NJ) was counting his double-up, but it didn't come through.  on a flop of A 5 2, he was all-in against big stack William Hart.  Julian held AQ for top pair.  William held A7 and was dominated.

Before Julian could collect those chips, the dealer ran the last two community cards: K 2.  They ended up chopping the pot, each with Aces-up and playing the King kicker on the board.

Event 17: Live from the Poker Room

$500 + $60 HOSE

Reports from the Poker Room has one player at 36k, but is keeping his true identity a secret.

Other players with decent sized stacks include Pete Mavro (29k) and Ryan Miller (27k) as both are nearly double the chip average of 15k.

Charlie Townsend is one of the favorites in the field, but says he's having trouble "focusing" during the early levels.

Event 12: Payouts

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Now that they are in the money, players are busting out rapidly.  So quickly, in fact, that they are stacking up at the desk waiting to get their payout paperwork.

Event 16: Go Granny Go!

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Buglion Watches Annie Keep the Table in Line

3 sons, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren are nice, but flopping trips in the big blind at Borgata is even nicer, especially when you knock out a player .

"I didn't even look," says Annie Kane (Forked River, NJ), "I didn't know what I had until the flop." What she has now is 180k and the chip lead after sending a player to the rail while holding 6 9.

Annie simply shrugs and laughs while raking in the pot after her opponent was all-in with A 8 on a board of 6 6 8.

This Granny says she's been playing poker forever and finished 4th in a tournament a long, long time ago. "I didn't know what I was doing then and I don't know what I'm doing now, but I get very lucky."

Annie and John Buglion (Commack, NY) have been side by side all day and you get the sense he'll be adopted by the end of the dinner break. Buglion says he's been struggling with Annie on his left and she quickly chimes in, "I tried giving you chips, but you wouldn't take them."

Annie has a decent lead over her nearest competitor, Judy Urban (Plymouth Meeting, PA) who has 150k, but there are a lot of stacks between 100k and 120k.

Approximately 220 players remain with an average stack of 54k.

Event 12: Rowe & Dominiak Make a Million

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

On the river with a board of 9 5 2 6 T, Nicole Rowe moved in, putting her opponent to the test.  He let it go and she collected the pot, showing just a Ten.  After collecting that pot, Nicole is up to ~1.1 million, becoming the first woman to reach the million-chip-mark.

 Bernie Dominiak

There are about half a dozen players in the field who are just over 1 million or just under one million.  Bernie Dominiak of Lower Burrell, PA, just just crossed the million-chip-mark himself.

Event 12: Pecoraro Having a Bad Day

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Today is just not Peter Pecoraro's day.  Peter is here from Billerica, MA, to play this event and although he started out short, he built his stack up nicely, only to double up another player when he ran pocket Queens into pocket Aces.

 Peter Pecoraro and Robert Nguyen

It didn't stop there.  Robert Nguyen (W. New York NJ) got all-in pre-flop against Peter, who was way ahead with pocket Jacks.  Then a 3 hit the flop and once again Peter was shipping a double-up to another player.

Peter was left short-stacked and busted out soon after.

Event 12: In the Money

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

They busted the money bubble and players were given a break.  100 players remain and all are guaranteed to leave with at least $426.

That includes Shawn Anthony Smith, Jr, who never showed up for day two. He's now accomplished a 'Vinny Vinh', who is infamous for cashing twice in the WSOP by never showing up for the following day after accumulating a decent-sized stack.

Play has resumed and the mood in the room seems much lighter now that some of the pressure is off.

Blinds are now 8k/16k with 2k antes.

Shawn Smith was the first player eliminated.  He finished in 100th place, earning $426.

Event 15: More 2nd Round Winners

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

After a byes in the first round Defending Champion Jeremy McLaughlin and 2010 Borgata Poker Open Champion are in action in the second round.

2nd Round Winners (so far)

Josh Brikis
Troy Longo
Marc Davis
Timothy Tuveson

Event 12: Zeitlin & Hart Make a Million

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

David Zeitlin (Brooklyn, NY)  and William Hart have also now reached one million chips.  Both players and Ryan Eriquezzo are sitting behind about 1.1 milllion chips so the lead is too close to call.

It is also bubble-time.  Exactly 101 players remain, which means they are playing hand-for-hand until one more is eliminated.

 Shawn Smith's Empty Chair

In an interesting side-note, Shawn Anthony Smith, Jr. (Silver Spring, MD) started the day with 177k, a decent sized stack.  But he never showed up.  His chips have been blinded off all day, but he's still in with a few chips remaining.

Event 15: Second Round Underway

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

After a long grind in the first round Josh Brikis is the first player to win his second round match
as he makes quick work of Scott Baumstein. During the first level Brikis has 4♣ 6♣ and he flops a flush. Baumstein hits one pair with the A♣ and all the chips go in.

Brikis fades the nut flush draw and advances to the third round.

Event 12: Eriquezzo First to a Million

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

 Ryan Eriquezzo

Ryan Eriquezzo (Danbury, CT) has won the race to a million.  He's currently up to 1.05 million and has surpassed former chip leader William Hart.

Another table has broken.  Twelve tables remain -- 108 players.  Average stack is ~299k.

Event 12: Betley Spikes Heartrate

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Mike Betley was all-in with pocket Tens and was racing against a player with AQ.  Mike couldn't look and turned away from the table.  When a player said "flush", Mike looked back to see that it was not the case.  "My heart normally beats normally at 60 beats per minute, [that's a great resting heart rate] but it just spiked up to about 180."

Mike Betley

Mike is from Cleveland, OH and comes up regularly to play the big tournaments.  He also spends about a week in Las Vegas every year during the WSOP.

Event 16: Straighten Up

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

John Ernst

Three players see a flop of 3 6 4 and the SB moves all-in for 12k. John Ernst (Ocean Township, NJ) smooth calls from the BB and the action is on Roland Israelashvilli (Forrest Hill, NY).

Israelshvilli goes in the tank, something he didn't have to do very often at the final table of yesterday's 7 card stud tournament. Israelshvilli eventually folds and shows two pairs 6s & 4s, the exact same hand as the SB.

Good fold for Israelshvilli, bad shove for the SB as Ernest tables 5 7 for the nut straight. The board goes brick, brick and Ernst knocks out one player, while the table congratulates Israelshvilli for getting away from his hand.

Event 12: Field Update

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Blinds are up to 6k/12k with 2k antes.

13 tables remain with 117 players.

William Hart

William Hart has built his stack up to 973k and is creeping up on the 1 million chip mark.

Event 15: First Round Complete

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

Steve Dannenamann eliminates Matt Vance to close out all first round matches.

Other first round winners:

Dominick Christiano, Jr.
Billy O'Neil
Victor Ilyukhin
Brandon Zaucha
Josh Brikis

Event 12: New Leading Lady

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

As soon as I got that last update posted about a lady with a big stack, Nicole Rowe made her move over on table four.  On the river, the board read K 9 8 5 A with three hearts.  Nicole (sb) moved in her last 235k.  Mike McGuinness tanked for a while, then folded.

 Nicole Rowe

Nicole made the courtesy show of her hand.  AJ offsuit with the Jack of hearts.  With that pot, Nicole takes the lead among the ladies.  She's up to 786k and probably in the top three in chips overall.

Event 16: Cleveland Rocks

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Seniors Champion Gary Kessler &
Anthony Pinkney Watch the Action

The Pennsylvania blizzard didn't keep Anthony Pinkney (Cleveland Heights, OH) from playing in today's Deep Stack. Pinkney left the Cleveland area 11 am Wednesday, but didn't arrive at Borgata until 5 am Thursday.

"We had to pull off the road a couple times," said Pinkney, who was stuck 6 times and in the car 18 hours, twice as long as expected. "Triple-a wasn't helping anybody."

Pinkney is all-in for his last 6k and gets two callers. The other two players check it down until the 6hits the river. Scott Tuchman (Mays Landing, NJ) fires into the dry side pot and the third player folds.

Pinkney: A♠ Q
Tuchman: A♣ Q

It's a chopped pot and Pinkney survives. The player who folded is visibly disappointed that he was bet off his hand.

Event 12: Leading Lady

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Table four has nothing on table five...they also now have three ladies in residence.  One of the ladies at table five is Kathleen Synkoski (Ijamsville, MD).  Kathleen is up to about 600k and is chip leader among the ladies remaining in this event, and in the top five in chips overall.

 Kathleen Synkoski

Back home in Maryland, Kathleen works in real estate, both residential and commercial.  She likes to come to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa during the big opens to play tournaments.

Event 16: 1-2 Back in Action

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

The top two finishers from the Seniors Event are in the field. Champion Mike Kessler (Spotsylvania, VA) is above the 25k chip starting stack. Runner-up Gary Brudner (University Park, FL) is a couple of tables over and around 20k.

Event 12: Back in Action

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

After two levels, players were given a break while the black 100 chips were colored up.

Play has now resumed with level 19, blinds 5k/10k with 1k antes.

16 tables remain (9-handed) leaving 144 players still in the hunt.  Only the last 100 will get paid.

Event 15: Affleck Advances

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

Matt Affleck defeats Bill Blanda to move into the second round, while Blanda drops to the losers bracket.

Other first round winners:

Lior Shalom Barlev
Robert Deppe
Darren Elias
Christopher Mitchell
Freddie Rouhani
Mark Tyson
Jason Young

Players still grinding in their first round matches include Matt Glantz and Josh Brikis.

Defending Champion Jeremy McLaughlin has a bye into the second round.

Event 12: Movin' On Up

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Table 20 was broken and Mike McGuinness (Toms River, NJ) was moved to table 4 with the ladies.  He wasted no time tangling up with Elizabeth Gray-Pardo.

 Mike McGuinness

On a flop of 9 5 4, Mike got all his chips in and called by Elizabeth, who held pocket 8s.  Mike's pocket 5s had flopped a set and left her drawing to just two remaining 8s, or runner-runner for a straight.

The last two came 2 9 and Mike filled up to double-up.  He's now sitting behind about 770k and challenging for the chip lead.  Elizabeth was left with less than 100k.

William Hart has grown his field-leading stack to about 820k.

Event 16: Another Large Field

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

The unofficial total for this Event is 473 players. That sets the top prize in the neighborhood of
$30,000 as the top 45 players get paid.

Event 12: Four-Way Action

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Blinds have increased to 4k/8k with 500 antes.

A four-way confrontation took place on table nine.  Alex Takounakis of Alexandria, VA (utg) limped, then Glynn Myles of Pheonix, AZ (utg+1) raised to 27k.  Martha Patella (Massapequa Park, NY) was next to act and she flats the 27k.  Then Yves Grenon (Ottowa, ON) moved all-in.

 Table 9 Four-Way Pot

Everyone else dove for cover and it was back to Alex, who moved in for less than Yves.  Glynn opted out.  Martha gave it some thought, then open-mucked her pocket 9s.  Alex held pocket 5s and was crushed by Yves' pocket Jacks.  The board came 9 5 4 2 9 and Yves took the pot, chipping up to ~210k while Alex took the walk to the rail.  Martha was congratulated on her solid lay-down.

Event 15: Featured Match

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

Blanda & Affleck

The heads up tournament is underway and there's an intriguing match featuring Borgata regular Bill "Big Daddy" Blanda (Galveston, TX) and Matt Affleck (Seattle, WA), who's making his first trip to the casino.

Affleck's a young West Coast player who made two deep runs in the WSOP Main Event, including a heartbreaking 15th place finish in 2010. Blanda, a South Philly native, has three Borgata wins on his resume, the most recent in the 2008 - $1,500 Event ($207,000).

2010 Borgata Poker Open Champion Dwyte Pilgrim has a bye into the second round.

Affleck Contemplates a Bet

Event 12: Girl on Girl on Guy Action

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Thanks to the luck of the re-draw, four ladies landed at the same table -- table four -- to start day two.  Vicki Renfrow (Pine Knoll Shores, NC) is in seat 5, Nicole Rowe (Salisbury Mills, NY) is in seat 7, Elizabeth Grey-Pardo (Yonkers, NY) is in seat 8, and Kathryn Dougherty (Allen, TX) is in seat 9.

 Ladies of Table Four

This situation didn't last long, as Vicki moved in on the first hand and got action from both Elizabeth (button) and Heung Yoon of Woodbridge, VA (bb).  On the flop of A J 2 with two spades, Heung led out for 76k and Elizabeth shoved (~85k on top).  Heung called, showing AQ offsuit for top pair.  Elizabeth held KT off for nothing but a gutshot to Broadway.  Vicki was drawing slim with pocket 9s.

The turn card delivered the knockout blow.  A Queen completed the straight for Elizabeth.  A 7 on the river made no difference.  Vicki was busted and Elizabeth collected both the main and side pots.

Now only three women remain on table four.

Event 17: HOSE Notables

Chris and Ming Reslock
Miami John Cernuto

Event 12: Day Two Underway

$170 + $30 Deep Stack Double Play NLH (2 Re-entry)

Cards are in the air for day two of event 12.  199 players survived day one (A & B combined) and are back in action today.

Play begins with level 17, blinds 3k/6k with 500 antes.

Event 16: Pocket Queens Hold

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Paul Dever (Ocean View, NJ) leads the betting on every street and is all-in after the turn. Dever turns over pocket queens and has to avoid a ten on the river as his opponent has a pair of 10s (10 8).

The river bricks and Dever is back in action.

Event 16: Borrero Bows Out

$260 + $40 Deep Stack NL

Miguel Borrero (Jersey City, NJ) hit the rail late last night in Event 12, so he's back at the tables looking for redemption, sort of. Borrero, who finished 5th in the 2010 Borgata East Coast Championship ($34,000), tries to make a move on the flop with the second nut flush draw.

There's three way all-in action and a set of 3s takes down the pot sending Borrero to the rail.

Event 15: The Draw

$2000 +$150 Heads Up Double Elimination NL

Board Games

The weather is forcing Director of Poker Operations Stan Strickland and Tournament Director Tab Duchateau to make some adjustments. Because of snow in the I-95 corridor, the start of the event was pushed back two hours to 1 pm and a couple of players are now receiving "byes" because the field is less than 64 players.

The brackets are filled-in and we'll highlight some of the key matches throughout the day.

Event 17: HOSERS in the House

$500 + $60 HOSE

The mixed game specialists are hitting the felt in a game that features four of their favorite games. Hold'em, Omaha, 7 Card Stud, Stud Eight or Better. All games are fixed limits as there's no pot limit or NL action.

Because there are four main events, the tables are packed in the Event Center and the HOSE field is in the Poker Room at the opposite end of the casino.

Cards are in the air!

Poker is always seeing a new influx of talent and some of it has to do with the calender. Beata Wielgoszewski (Plainville, CT) is less than a year removed from her 21st birthday and making her first trip to Borgata. She says she's "relieved" to be a "legal" poker player and while she doesn't have a lot of life experience she's played a lot of cards and is putting her college education to good use.

Wielgoszewski is a psych major at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut and as a senior has a few days off a week to try and take advantage of unsuspecting
players or future patients.
